The AWC top 5 renos for Fall 2018

After a hot and smoky summer, the weather this past week has been a wake up call. Autumn is in the air, school supplies and shiny new sneakers are ready to roll and my extended family has started talking about winter holiday plans.

Yes, when Canadian Tire has Halloween merch on display and Costco has the Christmas wrapping paper out, you know it’s time to discuss who’s having who for the big turkey dinner.

If it’s your turn for turkey this year, we’ve got your back. Here’s a list of our most requested September renovations:

  1. The Kitchen
This is the number one most requested renovation throughout the year and particularly the fall. Clients are looking to maximize their space, update cabinetry, and get new appliances so they can properly host holiday parties or cook up a turkey feast on the big day.
  2. Open Concept Living Space
Often paired with the kitchen renovation, taking out a wall becomes a priority for clients hoping to entertain more while enjoying a better day-to-day experience as well. An open concept space allows the cooks to stay engaged in conversation throughout an event or while prepping family dinners, creates better flow and use of space, and often allows for the much loved island to become a spectacular feature and place to hang out with family and friends.
  3. Master Sanctuary
House guests descending from out of town over Christmas? That’s often why we get requests to update the master suite at this time of year. It’s great to entertain and host the in-laws for a week or two, but it’s more fun for everyone when you have a hotel-inspired suite ready to escape to following a long day of hosting.
  4. Mudroom
With back to school comes backpacks and sneakers, coats, and lunch bags piled up in the entry. We’ve spent many fall months creating usable mudrooms with lockers, laundry, storage cabinets and homework stations.
  5. Teen Lounge (AKA The Basement)
They grow up so fast! As much as we love them, our kids have a way of taking over every square inch of the house. If you’ve got new teens in your house, creating a fun haven this fall could be a sanity saver. When children morph into teens overnight (or start junior high), we often get requests to redo a basement area with built-ins, wiring for electronics, pullout beds for sleepovers, and homework areas.

I hope you found this list useful. Feel free to reach out any time with your questions as we’re here to help you create the space of your dreams.
