AWC’s List of Best Neighbourhoods in YYC

Looking to find or build your dream home? Explore Calgary’s best with Alec Williams

One of the few born and raised Calgarians of my generation, I know and love this City wholeheartedly. I truly believe our town is one of the best places in the world to live, play and enjoy all life has to offer. And frankly, with over 180 communities to choose from there’s definitely something for everyone.

For me, I tend to live, work and serve clients in the south central inner city. From a very young age, I explored these communities – building tree forts and creating subterranean hideaways in the areas around the Glenmore reservoir and the Elbow River.

So for those of you, like me, who enjoy living close to downtown with fabulous amenities and natural areas close at hand, I’ll be sharing with you my top YYC neighbourhoods over the next few posts. Let’s get started!

  1. Elbow Park (and its neighbour river communities)

Walk the riverbank to Mission’s great restaurants and shops, entertain neighbours on your front veranda on a warm summer night, and have access to the City’s most exclusive schools. Just a few minutes commute to downtown, home to the Glencoe Club and walking distance to the Stampede Grounds, Elbow Park is a much-loved Calgary institution.

In Elbow Park, we often help families renovate century-old houses into enchanting homes with modern updates.

  2. Altadore and North Glenmore Park

For dog lovers it doesn’t get any better than spending time with your furry friend exploring River Park and Sandy Beach. Visit the shops and restaurants of Garrison Woods, grab a treat at Calgary’s famous My Favourite Ice Cream or just enjoy family-friendly living in these sought after communities.

We’re currently building a new home in North Glenmore – more to say on that in coming months – and we recently finished a build right on the dog park. You can explore that home here.

  3. Kelvin Grove and its neighbours Chinook Park and Eagle Ridge

Drive a little further south and you’ll find yourself in the gorgeous, intimate community of Kelvin Grove. A vibrant community that won the Avenue Neighbourhood Spirit Award, Kelvin Grove has amazing access to the Glenmore Reservoir walking and biking pathways, is one of the City’s few communities in easy walking distance of all levels of schools and the Rockyview Hospital. More importantly, this is a community that celebrates together regularly and the parties will be bigger and better than ever once the new community hall opens this fall.

You’ll find AWC signage and trucks throughout Kelvin Grove as we help clients renovate their ‘50s and ‘60s homes to suit the new generation’s lifestyle.

That’s it for today’s post. Watch for next month when I share more on communities like Mount Royal, Britannia and Mayfair.
